Now that you have gone through the booking process and decided on coming to stay with us (which we are so happy about!), what are you going to do whilst here? Let us give you a weekend getaway tour of the region. From La Rocher Eco Retreat, your first stop will have to be in Uki. We are lucky to be located so close to such a beautiful village. The coffee shops are always buzzing with locals and tourists alike, and the Uki Hall has events on during the week. You might even be able to catch a yoga class if you time it right! If you are lucky and are here on the third Sunday of the month, the Uki Buttery Bazaar Market is on! From 9am to 2pm, this market has
been happening for more than 30 years and is full of wonderful stalls. You can find handmade, second-hand products, as well as food and bric-a-brac. A band is usually playing on the lawn, so you can soak up the relaxing and fun vibe of this market, listening to some good tunes, and treating yourself to a nice lunch. Whilst you are in Uki, go check out the Post Office! This might sound like a strange place to visit on a holiday, but Gary has done a wonderful job with the place and has transformed it into a cool spot, with a coffee shop and small art exhibition. He roasts his own beans at the back, which you can go on a tour of on Thursday mornings.
Following your morning/lunch in Uki, you have a few options for the rest of your day. If the weather allows, you can head to Cabarita beach. This is one of our favourite beaches and it is only a 30-40min drive away. The beach is split in two, with Cabarita Headland in the middle. We highly recommend walking to the top and taking in the views from up there. It is not a long or hard walk and definitely worth the look. If it is whale watching season, then that is definitely a spot where you can see them from!
If you are not a big fan of the beach, or if the weather does not allow it, a trip to the Tweed Regional Gallery in Murwillumbah is a brilliant alternative. The gallery has some fascinating exhibitions throughout the year that are worth having a look at. What makes it so unique is its Margaret Olley Art Centre. The centre opened in 2014, as an extension to the gallery and to honour the wishes of the late Margaret Olley. Some of her room shave been recreated in there, so don’t miss out on a glimpse into her life! After this day full of lovely experiences in our region, it is time to head back for a sunset on your villa deck. Laze around on your deck or at the pool and enjoy the tranquillity. If you rather go out for dinner, please check out our article “Wining and dining in the area”! Lots of places to try and discover. On your second day, and now that you know our immediate surrounding, treating yourself to a lie-in and a swim at the pool (or in the hot tub depending on the weather) sounds like the perfect start to the day. You can even get a massage organised in your own villa (do let us know in advance so we can organise that for you!). Make use of the BBQ on the deck in between going on walks on our 117 acres property and swimming in the pool. If you are looking to go out for brunch, we would recommend Mavis’s Kitchen. their menus are adapted to the season and sourced from local businesses. We highly recommend to book in advance though, as they tend to get busy. This relaxing day provides with a good wrap of your weekend away. Which part of your getaway did you enjoy the most? Share your experience with us and others!
